Rancho Bernardo is a renowned location for raising families, school districts, and hiking, but some may not realize that this area of San Diego is a hidden gem for beer lovers. With several local breweries, Rancho Bernardo is an up-and-coming locale for your next “hoppy” hour. Note: The Growing Bitter team has personally and thoroughly verified each of these venues.
Affectionately referred to as Building K by locals, this restaurant/brewery is known for its revolving menu of craft brews. In addition to a large indoor seating area, Karl Strauss has a heated outdoor patio that offers a beautiful view for trying San Diego beers year round. As an added bonus, the wait staff at Building K love treating customers to samples of brews, so you can get a taste of something new without committing to a full glass.
Second Chance Beer Company
Located on the Avenue of Science in Rancho Bernardo, this brewery is an excellent spot for good beer, people watching, food trucks, and games. With 11 core beers on tap, darts, corn hole, and board games, Second Chance is a hub for beer and game lovers. Plus, the venue is kid and dog friendly, meaning that this spot is perfect for a night out for the whole family, furry friends, toddlers, and all.
The Cork and Craft (AKA Abnormal Beer Company)
As a self-proclaimed restaurant, winery, and brewery, the Cork and Craft offers one stop shopping for a decadent evening out. This spot offers the classiness of a Zagat-approved restaurant along with the easy-going atmosphere of a beer shop. Amongst the Craft Brew side of the business is the Abnormal Beer Co., which offers several must-try options on C&C’s menu, including Abnormal’s jolly good English pale ale, appropriately named Jolly Good, and their fruity Calamansi saison.
